About this part
Porsche first unveiled the 959 at the 1983 Frankfurt auto show as a study for a full-time 4WD Group B super sports car. It was far from finished back then. Racing experience, including the Paris-Dakar Rally and the Le Mans 24 hour endurance race, sharpened it into a real machine. The result runs like a road car, with smooth running, low interior noise and high safety reserves. Its 450hp is easy to drive at low RPM. The 2848cc air/liquid cooled flat-6 DOHC is a descendant of the 956 and 962 Group C racers and runs two turbochargers, good for more than 300km/h. Acceleration is strong, and braking distances are short for every class of driver.
