About this part
USS North Carolina BB-55 battleship at 1:500 scale. Molded in gray with 144 parts, a display stand, and decals for both Washington and Carolina. Measures 17 3/4 inches long. The North Carolina was lead ship of a class of 35,000-ton battleships, built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She got the nickname Showboat from all the attention she drew on trials in New York Harbor. When she was commissioned on April 9, 1941, she was the world's greatest sea weapon. She carried nine 16-inch/45 caliber guns in three turrets and twenty 5-inch/38 caliber guns in ten twin mounts. Her wartime crew was 144 commissioned officers and 2,195 enlisted men, including 86 Marines. She went to the Pacific in June 1942 for the Guadalcanal campaign and the Battle of the Eastern Solomons. A Japanese sub torpedo damaged her later on. Fits: general hobby plastic models.
