About this part
This highly detailed 1/320 scale USS Forrest Sherman measures 16 inches long when built. Decals are included for the Forrest Sherman, Turner Joy and Edson destroyers. Skill level 2. Admiral Nimitz believed destroyers would have a secure place in the fleet of the future, and the Forrest Sherman is built to answer that call. She slid into the water in 1957, the week of President Eisenhower's second inauguration. Her all-aluminum above-deck structure includes gun foundations, and her higher freeboard keeps her dry and stable. The last of the gun-only destroyers, she mounts an automatic rapid-fire gun forward and two aft, plus several anti-aircraft guns, hedgehogs, depth charges, and both anti-submarine and anti-surface torpedoes. In 1958 she patrolled the eastern Mediterranean, then joined the 7th Fleet off Taiwan to support threatened islands.
