Trains approaching intersecting rail lines and junctions will find the Interlocking Tower, a new Built- & -Ready Landmark Structure. These towers house an interlocking machine that controls train movement through signals, switches and track circuits, keeping stations and junctions running safely. The machine's model board sits in the center of the upstairs cabin and can be seen from 360 degrees through windows on every side. The operator's desk, a wood stove, lanterns, pin-up posters and a calendar are visible too. The two-story tower is loaded with exterior detail: a weathered shingle roof, an identification sign reading "WS No. 7," and an upper deck with a staircase down to ground level. Tires, a wire spool, a water hose, a diesel tank and barrels show the daily grind, along with a toolbox and boots on the deck outside the upstairs door.
