In 1932 the German Army Ordnance Bureau wanted half tracks, from a 1-ton machine up to an 18-ton tractor. Different car makers got the jobs. Krauss-Maffei in Munich took the 8-ton job. They'd been working on half tracks since 1928, and their KMm7 prototype was done by 1933. It evolved into the KMm8 and KMm9, and the KMm10 went into production in 1936. Only then was the 8-ton half track officially named the Medium 8-ton Tractor (Sd. Kfz. 7). The last production model, the KMm11, was finished in 1938 and went straight into production. By the end of WWII about 1,200 had been built. One variant carried a 20mm four-barrel AA machine gun, the Sd. Kfz. 7/1. Requires paint and assembly. FITS: general hobby plastic models
